Definition

A treaty is an agreement between two families.

A treaty may contain multiple clauses (or items) that can change the state of the game, whose possessions of families and diplomatic relations.


Type of clauses

Any clauses produce their possible effect only if the treaty containing them is accepted by both parties.

Clause TEXT

A clause text is not binding in the game.

It consists of a text that can describe explanations, promises or general ideas.

Clause PEACE

A peace clause causes the termination of the state of war between two families, if the state of war existed. The end of the state of war is accompanied by the return by both parties of all the cities controlled militarily but not de jure.

Moreover, this clause makes it impossible any act of war for 3 years.

Exception: it is possible to declare a felony war even after a peace treaty.

Clause MARRIAGE

A wedding clause causes the marriage of two characters each belonging to one of the two families involved in the contract. To be valid, a marriage clause must involve two persons of different sex with more than 15 years old and unmarried.

A marriage treaty has value of alliance if and only if both spouses are family heads or one of their direct ascendants or descendants.

NOTE: The interface of the treaties does not make matrilineal marriage. To make a matrilineal marriage, it is necessary:

  • to use the "family" menu, going in the other family, the character you want to marry,
  • and click on the top right of the portrait of this character, to open the dropdown menu and select "marry"
  • select the character in your family that you want to get married

The matrilineal marriage will be the first clause of a treaty. You can add other clauses freely after.

Consequence: You can not put two matrilineal marriages in the same treaty.

CODED YET It is not possible to marry a family at war (except to add a clause in the peace treaty itself).

Clause VASSALIZATION

This clause creates a link between two titles owned by the two families. If the realization of this clause causes the destruction of a vassalage involving a third overlord, then it may terminate with the former vassal as a felon.

A vassalisation clause can specify the amount of a pension that will be paid annually (1 January) by the lord to his vassal, and the size of the host service due from the vassal to his overlord (the number of soldiers the vassal undertakes to intervene in case of war against his overlord involving a third party). You can specify whether this host service is due only if the lord is attacked by a third party, or if the agreement also covers cases where the assailant is the overlord itself.

Clause BREAKING OF A FEUDAL BOND

This clause causes the destruction of a vassal relationship between two titles held by each party, if the feudal bond is broken without the overlord signing this clause, the former vassal can be accused of felony.

Clause CASH DONATION

This clause causes the transfer of a sum of money from one party to another.

Clause HANDOVER OF A SEIGNORY

This clause causes the transfer of control of a part of a province to the other. Specifically, title (de jure) if possessed, de facto military control and half of political influence are transmitted. The other half of political control remains the donor.

A "handover of a Seignory" clause is possible only if the transferee has, besides the de facto control, the title of the province or if that title belongs to no one (neutral city).

Clause RIGHT OF PASSAGE

This clause allows one of the two contracting parties to give the other party a right of passage of armies on his land.<p>

Particular treaties ending a war

At the outbreak of war , the aggressor CODED NOT YET attacks defining war goals. These war aims entail the automatic creation of two peace treaties addressing the objectives of the two belligerents. So it is always possible to end a war, the conditions initially set by the opponent (it includes a small financial penalty, to repay for the uproar created).

General

Alliances between families

Two families can ally by three different means:

  • marriage
  • the vassal relationship
  • the war

To form an alliance by marriage, the spouses must be close relatives of the household head, ie brothers, sisters or children. But this alliance is extinguished with the death of one of the two signatories parents.

The vassal relationship is eternal as long as a treaty between the overlord/vassal title exists (see explanations on titles). <p>When a family declares war to another, it can call its allies (lords, vassals, matrimonial allies), which themselves may call their own allies. Belligerent in the same camp become allies until the conflict ends.
