I'm new to this and want to know what it is all about and what you think of it.

It's a little like going to the bakery and asking:

- Is your bread good?

If people are playing it, I guess they find it enjoyable.

It depends of what you are looking for. If you like a mix of diplomacy, role playing, strategy and military actions with a slow pace, you may try it.

Hi Zantoklaw,

You're right .. the question was not the best way to start ;)

From you reply I conclude that it is diplomacy, strategy/military and RP..   But I haven't found the RP part, yet.

But so far, it is fun. Looks good and I think it is a great concept.

Let's play ;)

You find the the RP part the way you write messages to your neighbours, to the forum in some subjects dedicated to RP.

You may then decide of the type of behavement your family chief has got.

too slow

If you find the game too slow then this game could not be for you, or you might just not be engaged in it yet.

The game progresses slowly however it becomes quite immersive and once you become involved in the local diplomacy, begin roleplaying, and start to increase the size of your empire, then the game can become quite active.

When you'll have the Custom Game Options (during or after the Summer), you will be able to choose the speed of the game :) Soem players already tested it in the game Stubby.

As an old wargamer i find this game really excellent. It still needs work (ships, names of provinces and cities not even founded at the time, some polishing and bugfixes) but overall this game has great potential.

I like the concept of the idea and the game, I think it has great potential. Especially if there are plans for new servers, such as custom games mentioned, and the possibility of friend/clan servers or servers that can be set up by a player who can change the settings of the server (history, year etc). But I really don't know what the limitation of 'game rooms' will be come the more updated version of the game, but they are some suggestions and perhaps some worthy feedback as well.

I also feel the game is incredible difficult, at the start most of all. I suppose that is up to personal preference and skill on whether that is a good or bad thing. The reason I say that is because from just joining the game myself, I had one option upon joining the game and that was to be the controller of House Boubon, Given real history, that isn't bad going, the problem is it seems possible to me that a new player who takes over the role of an exiting player may be left with all sorts of conflicts, debt and limited progress and options.

Now that could be good in regards to realism, not everyone is born privileged after all, but it could be something that makes new players weary of continuing for long if they are dumped in the deep end so to say. I understand on some online games there is a defense bonus for new players, is that such a thing that exists or will exist in this game?
Perhaps wiping away previous debts, or placing a compulsory ceasefire to any existing conflicts involving the house to give a new player enough time to build some economy and relations with the players surrounding them would be beneficial? After that it is then the challenge of the player to build on what they can and try and defend their holdings. That is the aim of the game after all.

I look forward to seeing progress in the game!

As former King of Portugal I would certainly recommend this game to anyone that loves strategy, diplomacy and micro-management. Though the family system needs a little bit a tweaking and the way kings can get replaced by a new guy just joining the game can be frustrating. If you want to play this game it is best you start at day one of a new server because of the progression gap that you'd otherwise incur if you choose not to do so. Furthermore to fully experience this game you need a lot of online time to position your armies. Because army movement is very time intense you should be prepared to sacrifice many hours if you wish to optimize your tactical and stratigical advantage.

Considering this game is still in Alpha fase its really well designed with very few bugs. Plus they have a good team of referees monitoring the game. So if you have some time to spare make sure you play this game.

With regards,

Former Hobbes player, King of Portugal, Duke of Lisbon
