i've had no trouble joining this game previously though suddenly it keeps coming up with 'someone else with the same internet connection is playing in this game,pick another one' which isn't at all true! and all the games are full so i'm essentially blocked from playing because the server thinks i'm permanently signed in or something

probably is bug in the game.You can try to reset internet connection(modem,router ) if you don't have static ip and maybe that is help you.

nah,apparently someone called gudinna started playing after me,who for some reason has the same ip as me,so it's kicked me off the game essentially
